Smiling Sean Cox pictured with Sir Kenny Dalglish ahead of Liverpool Legends game in Dublin

A smiling Sean Cox has been pictured alongside Sir Kenny Dalglish during his first public outing since being attacked.

The father-of-three is the guest of honour at an in Dublin that is being held to raise money for his rehabilitation.

Sean's wife announced last week that he would be attending the game and pictures taken show the life-long fan looking happy and comfortable in a box above the pitch.

Kenny Dalglish will be managing the Liverpool side tonight that consists of Sander Westerveld, Jerzy Dudek, Patrik Berger, Vladimir Smicer, Salif Diao, Robbie Fowler, Rush and Djibril Cisse.

Glen Johnson also joins the LFC Legends team, as well as Robbie Keane, who, along with McAteer, John Aldridge and Phil Babb, will play for both Liverpool and their opponents.

Mick McCarthy will take charge of the Irish team.

Ahead of kick off, You'll Never Walk Alone rang out around the AVIVA stadium  as around 25,000 fans are expected to attend the match.

Liverpool Football Club also tweeted out a heartwarming photo of Sean who gave a thumbs up to the camera.

He was joined in the photo by former Liverpool player Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish, Mick McCarthy and Liverpool CEO Peter Moore.

Tonight's match will raise much needed funds that will be put towards Sean's continuing rehab.

The 54-year-old sustained life-changing injuries when he was attacked ahead of Liverpool's clash with AS Roma in the Champions League last season.

Earlier this week, Sean posted a video which showed him speaking for the first time.

In the clip the Meath-native can be seen raising his thumb and saying: "Thank you".
