Mizuno Some Koujyo Co., a dyeing company in Asahikawa, Hokkaido Prefecture, has been selling masks featuring designs of the easily recognizable snouts of animals such as dogs, cats and pigs. "Even if it's just a little, we'd like to bring smiles to people," the company said.
As the coronavirus continued to spread, a company employee made a mask with an animal pattern that children liked after learning from a nursery teacher that "children are afraid of white masks." After putting them on the market in March, the company now receives more than 30 orders daily from both inside and outside the prefecture.
There are 20 patterns in total. Each mask costs 1,320 yen including tax and can be washed repeatedly. Orders are taken at stores and via the company's website. Hitomi Ono, 38, a spokesperson for the company, said, "I'd like children who don't like masks to come to enjoy wearing them."
