Rutherglen boxing coach Archie Durie said everybody coming through his doors had “a grin as wide as the Clyde” after finally being able to reopen.
Durie’s Boxing Gym opened up on April 26 with a busy mixed class, and the popular coach says every session has been packed to the rafters since.
He’s open from 9am until 4pm for the general public to use, and Durie says seeing so many happy, smiling faces has been a real tonic after what was a difficult lockdown.
He said: “Every session we’ve been doing has been more or less packed to the gunnels, every one.
“I’ve opened the gym every day at 9am until 4pm for the public to come in off the street and the ones that are furloughed, which I’ve been doing all down the line.
“Last Monday every class was just a buzz, everybody who was coming in had a grin as wide as the Clyde, it was really good.
“I can’t describe how good it is to be open again, but it’s a breath of fresh air for myself.
“Rules and regulations being lifted, preparing things, people helping round about and to get in and get it open again has been brilliant.”
For Archie himself, it has left him on a real high after months of the lockdown blues.
He added: “It was a personal buzz to myself because the gym has been totally turned about, and throughout Covid every bit of funding I’ve got has been put to good use.
“The gym is looking fantastic, people are coming in to a happy place and it has been good – I love it.”
