'Smelly bag of cannabis' leads police to fleeing 'drug dealer'

A suspected drug dealer fled clutching a 'smelly bag of cannabis' after the car he was a passenger in was stopped.

The failed escaped bid happened after police stopped a blue BMW 1 Series on Rainford Road, St Helens yesterday afternoon.

Police said the front seat passenger decided to make a run for it clutching a bag "leaving the scent of cannabis in his midst."

The suspected dealer was unable to shake police despite dumping the cannabis hoping it wouldn't be found.

Police found the blue carrier bag full of cannabis and arrested the man on suspicion of possessing a Class B drug with the intent to supply.

The driver of the BMW was also arrested for being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.

He also failed a road side drugs test, had no insurance to drive the car and his driving licence had expired.

Following the double arrest, St Helens Police posted on their Facebook page: "Arrest at 12:05hrs today (3rd May 2021) officers from R & R stopped a Blue BMW 1 Series on Rainford Road, Windle.

"The front seat passenger decided to make a run for it clutching a bag leaving the scent of cannabis in his midst.
