Smek for President! by Adam Rex – review

Tip’s best friend is not like anyone else’s. J.Lo is an alien and after accidentally sending out a signal summoning his planet’s greatest enemy, the Gorg, his home race makes him public enemy number one.

Smek for President is the brilliant sequel to the book that inspired the movie Home!! It’s about Tip and her friend J.Lo (who is called Oh in the movie) going to the Boov’s home planet and trying to clear his name, so he can go, and stay, home. The supreme HighBoov, Captain Smek, has other ideas though!! He is losing control of New Boovworld and, knowing it’ll improve his reputation MASSIVELY, he sets out to catch J.Lo.

Smek for President!

It’s rewarding, amusing and sometimes sad reading about J.Lo and Tip’s journey to clear J.Lo’s name and get him home, preferably without getting arrested or dying! My favourite character is Tip’s mum, even though you see her very little throughout the book. She is overprotective and unassuming, and kind of angry at the end (as I would be in her position) and… yeah. Just fabulous.

I loved this book, I recommend it to people who enjoy amusing books with sad bits too and rate it 7⅓ out of 10.
