Smashed car winched off Dublin beach after handbrake mishap

A jeep smashed through metal fencing and down a steep drop onto a beach after its handbrake was left off.

The incident happened today when it's understood a person visiting the area had parked the white Hyundai Tucson in a driveway on Strand Road in Sutton in north Dublin.

The empty vehicle rolled down a hill, through cast iron fencing and onto the beach at about 11.30am.

There was extensive damage to the front, rear and roof of the car as it appears to have tumbled down the drop.

Car recovery workers were alerted and had to use a rope winch to drag it back up the steep wall before taking it away.
