Smash on A1 in East Lothian closes carriageway with fire crews called to the scene

Drivers are being warned to expect delays after a vehicle crash closed part of the busy A1 in East Lothian.

The alarm was raised at around 7.30am on Friday, April 23, following reports of a smash on the Thistly Cross Roundabout.

The southbound carriageway was temporarily closed while emergency crews, including two fire engines, dealt with the incident.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: “07.30am A1 at the Thistly Cross Roundabout. RTC on the roundabout itself, take care on approach. Police en route.”

They later added: “The southbound carriageway is now closed with fire service in attendance - please use an alternative route meantime.”

One lane has since reopened however traffic remains slow in the area.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called at 7.31am and have two appliances in attendance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.25am on Friday, 23 April, we received a report of a one vehicle crash at the Thistly Cross roundabout in Dunbar.

“Emergency services attended and a 56-year-old woman was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“The road was closed for a short while and fully reopened around 9am.”
