Smash Mouth slams 6-time All-Star Bryce Harper: ‘swim in the sea of boos now!’

The band Smash Mouth isn’t afraid to dive into feuds, throw a few jabs or share some spicy sports takes — or, at least its Twitter account isn’t.

It was also vocal about its support for the San Francisco Giants making a move during the Bryce Harper Sweepstakes earlier this year. But since this offseason’s most coveted free agent signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, Smash Mouth is clearly no longer a Harper fan and seemed to very much enjoy the fact that the 26-year-old slugger was recently booed by his new hometown crowd.

During the Phillies 3-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, Harper went 0-for-4, striking out twice, and added an error. And Philadelphia sports fans did their thing and booed their biggest star.

And Smash Mouth had something to say about that and slammed Harper for making what it obviously still believes was the wrong choice.

Yes, Harper is in a little slump right now — which FTW’s Ted Berg will tell you reflects fans misunderstanding the concept of small sample sizes — but to his credit, he sort of embraced the boos. He said after the game: “I’d do the same thing.”

But those are still some harsh words from Smash Mouth about the six-time MLB All-Star — although it’s fairly on-brand. In the past, the band also has called the Oakland A’s a joke, bashed Draymond Green and once jumped into a beef between Myles Garrett and Kevin Durant.
