Over the two last years e-commerce website designers and online marketing specialists Purpose Media have doubled in size and turnover.
With ambitions to reach £2m by 2016, ensuring working practices are smarter and more efficient has been a top priority.
As a growing business, Purpose Media identified that without improvements to account management processes and workflow systems, profitability and customer service could suffer.
Immediate changes included reorganising into teams with managers responsible for design, development and account management. The introduction of a Kanban board improved efficiency and provided a quick visual representation of potential workflow bottlenecks. This improved work scheduling and management of client expectations.
Investment in specialist software helped automate workflow. This includes features which allow customers to log support requests. Support tickets are raised according to urgency and allocated to the right people to ensure a quick response.
Introducing employee appraisals and setting skills and attributes they must achieve to reach the next grade has also improved working effectiveness.
The appointment of a finance director has ensured the company has a set of key performance indicators which are used to track financial and operational efficiency on an ongoing basis.
In-house systems are aligned to enable previous website design and development code to be reusable on other projects.
These measures have combined to improve profitability and business efficiency culminating in Purpose Media winning the Derbyshire Small Business of the Year award.
