Pact Coffee has grown rapidly in the last 12 months. We’ve gone from eight to 35 people and seen 20% month-on-month revenue growth. As a venture-capital backed tech startup we find working in a smart and efficient way essential. We are very ambitious but have a relatively small team and limited resources. And it’s key that while growing we maintain the quality of our product (awesome fresh roasted coffee) and our customer experience (caring about making people feel loved).
One of our operating principles is ‘the 70% rule’. Everyone in the business is empowered to know that if they are 70% sure it is a good idea, they should go ahead and do it without asking permission. Gut instinct is often right and it helps to keep us creative and agile.
We use a number of communication tools to enable us to work in a smart way, including Slack, the real-time messaging, archiving and search platform. This helps us keep internal email traffic down. Also everyone works on laptops and files are managed via Google Drive in the cloud, making flexible and remote working very easy. Google Hangout meetings are common as we have important team members who are based in Leicester and Portugal and many people regularly work from home. Finally, we have invested in perks and an office that everyone loves – and of course there is a lot of great, free coffee available!
