Working as a solopreneur, it’s essential to understand where you want your business to go. It’s tough launching a new business with no startup budget, especially when you’re doing everything yourself. You become a Jack-of-all-trades, and before you know it, you feel frazzled. Sometimes I felt I was treading water, learning new skills, juggling deadlines, arranging workshops, sending out invoices, as well as marketing and PR. It’s exhausting!
Sanity prevailed and I’ve now gathered together a virtual team, enabling me to delegate more. This allows me to focus on what I am good at and concentrate on bringing money in.
It’s been hard handing over control and trusting that people will do things properly. I’ve learned:
•There are other people who are more efficient at doing some tasks than I am.
•People who specialise in a particular area tend to be better at it than I am.
•I can trust people to manage and gently remind me when things need to get done.
•My time is valuable and is best spent where I can add the most value.
•By outsourcing certain tasks to people I trust, I can focus more on my core business.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve seen a positive change in my business and it’s made an incredible difference to my mind-set. Doing less, delegating and focusing on where my strengths lie has had a very positive impact on my business overall.
