At Leather Courses Britain we believe that staff and customers are our most important assets, so when it comes to smarter working, customer satisfaction and staff happiness are our first priority.
Smarter working initially involved investing in new equipment and procedures to boost staff morale. For example, offering staff the opportunity to enhance their skills via NVQs, offering more flexibility with working hours, installing workshop cameras for the benefit of lone workers and updating the washroom and kitchen area.
Improvements to the overall workshop operation involved consulting the whole team. Suggestions we’ve implemented include reassessing the workshop floor plan, ensuring our leatherwork courses are run as efficiently as possible, updating stock levels daily, staff worksheets allocating daily tasks and colour coding workbenches, tools and leather storage units. Downtime is now spent writing blog posts or attending to administrative tasks.
Using the low-cost, cloud-based contact system HighRiseHQ and Sipgate phone system, we are able to work together to secure new business without the need to be in the same place, at the same time.
Building strong, local business relationships is another successful strategy. Establishing links with the best local B&Bs and restaurants for the benefit of our visiting customers helps to make their experience a positive one.
