At Intrafocus our consultants all work remotely. Actually, they all work from home. It was a conscious decision when the company was formed in 2011 that we would not take on the overhead of an office. In today’s working environment we honestly believed there was no need.
However, to take this step meant we needed to be sure all of our ‘office’ tools were available wherever we were and at whatever time we needed them.
Our business is conducted across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This has a double communication impact for us. First when we are out of the (home) office with customers we need to have quick and easy access to our systems. Second, when we are working at home we need to be able to communicate with our customers without the burden of huge telephone bills.
As a result, all of our systems – from collaboration to helpdesk, initial communication, invoicing and document preparation – is online. There is nothing we do that requires a local system. The only potential downside is the requirement for an internet connection wherever we are. To date this has never been a problem.
The productivity increases have been immense, and we are never out of touch with each other or with our customers. The biggest gain for us has been the work/life balance.
