Staff retention in public relations is a key issue, with many firms having a turnover of over 70%, according to industry body the PRCA.
In 2014 Dynamo decided to do something about this by trying to create the most flexible and tailored work environment. We introduced unlimited holiday for all staff members, annual pay rises and innovated by personally tailoring every staff contract.
Our personalised contracts include a special individual clause for an indulgence. Inspired by a staff member from Silicon Valley we added in regular chocolate deliveries to secure a top talent. In 2014 we widened this policy to all staff, writing into contracts spa days and rollercoaster rides. The clause is called the ‘Don Draper clause’, after the TV show Mad Men.
This smart way of working has received press from Forbes – now there’s a company I can get behind! We have also had praise from the PRCA’s [director general] Francis Ingham and we were named as as the best place to work as a small company in the recent PRWeek annual awards.
Dynamo is also a part of the government’s Growth Accelerator team, joining in June 2014 and mapping out a business orbit for the next four years. This involves bringing in key members of staff to shape our business strategy.
Involving staff in the direction of the business and implementing smart innovative new ideas, has resulted in no single member of the team leaving the business in over a year.
