Last year we celebrated 10 years in business. Over that time, we have shed a few layers of skin. But for many years we have been comfortable with who we are and what we want to achieve. We have got to know more about the kind of person who is going to settle and prosper here.
In 2013, a survey placed us in the top 5% of the UK’s cohesive work places, but is was fair to say that aspects of our management style had not evolved to reflect the trust levels we were experiencing with our employees.
So, in 2014, we carried out a simple fine tune of our processes. We introduced quarter day holidays. And, those with 100% attendance in a calendar quarter are rewarded with a dozy day – a short notice holiday that could be used anytime on its own or rolled up into the existing holiday allowance.
At the end of 2013, we employed 27 people and counted an average of 2.7 days sick per employee. In 2014, we increased headcount to 43 but there were only 77 days sick in the business at an average of 1.7 days per employee.
This is a fantastic achievement when it has been widely reported that UK employees have an average of 9.1 sick days per year.
