Smart schoolgirl uses Alexa to save dad's life as he suffers heart attack

A smart schoolgirl saved her dad's life by asking Alexa for help when he collapsed at home.

Bree Joseph calmly told the Amazon virtual assistant that her father Gilbert was having chest pains and trouble breathing.

Alexa diagnosed a heart attack and Bree knew he needed emergency help.

The 10-year-old used Alexa again to call her mum Laura who had nipped to nearby shops.

School nurse Laura, 38, told her daughter not to 'be so daft' when she told her mum that Gilbert was having a heart attack.

Laura said: "But when I got home I could see that Alexa's diagnosis was right."

Postman Gilbert, 46, was rushed to hospital where doctors discovered a tear in his aorta, the main artery which takes blood from the heart.

He needed an emergency operation and suffered another cardiac arrest on the way to the operating theatre.

Gilbert was recovering at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, today and owes his life to Bree and the family's £60 virtual assistant.

Laura, of Alltwen, Swansea, praised Bree for keeping cool and raising the alarm after asking Alexa.

She said: "I could not be more proud of her - she did a fantastic job.

"I didn't believe it when she said Gilbert was having a heart attack - he's really fit, doesn't smoke and eats well.

"That's why it was so shocking."

Gilbert is not allowed visitors because of Coronavirus so Laura, Bree and her brother Griff, seven, are keeping in touch - using Alexa.
