'Smart' - Newcastle United fans agree on Chris Wood signing after £25m deal from Burnley
Newcastle United fans have expressed their delighted after it was confirmed that Chris Wood has completed the £25m switch from Burnley on Thursday morning.
The 30-year-old has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal on Tyneside and becomes Eddie Howe's second January signing before the midway point of the transfer window.
Wood, who has scored three goals in 21 appearances this season, is also available for this weekend's important clash against Watford at St James' Park this weekend.
During five years at the Clarets, Wood has netted 49 goals in 144 Premier League matches and he has 27 goals in 60 games for New Zealand at international level.
It's safe to say the signing has pleased the vast majority of the Magpies faithful, with one supporter admitting it is a 'cracking' addition, while another claimed they have a 'good feeling' about Wood.
Here is what some had to say on social media.
@Benji_jordan14 : Great addition, just in time before the midway point of the transfer window.me for Watford. Now let’s get a defender over the line! #nufc
@Thomassmith21 : Great signing in my eyes, has a similar record to Wilson, weakens a relegation rival and after all the crosses we were making on Saturday it's good to give us an extra option in having a target man type player, feed him a cross and he'll score. #NUFC
@gemmastafford25 : Happy with that. Got to start somewhere and if he gets the goals that keeps us up then it’s £25 million well spent, welcome Chris
@MajJarra : Cracking signing, guaranteed he scores 2 against Watford. Come back to this tweet when he does #nufc
@margav16 : Brilliant signing! Buzzing with this
@matturner92 : Smart signing for the situation we’re in. Weakening a rival is always a bonus #NUFC
@BoiMidland : I’ve got a really good feeling about this one. Feels similar to the likes of @dembabafoot or @lovenkrands11 - someone that can become a hero with the fans very quickly. Welcome, Woody! @officialcwood #NUFC
@jackm1892 : Delighted with this. Strengthens us before Saturday and give us a presence up top. At long last we have a club and a board acting in our best interests. More people need to remember. Onwards & Upwards.
