Smart metering firm secures green accolade from the City

The contribution being made to tackling climate change by Glasgow-based utility firm Smart Metering Systems (SMS), has been highlighted by the London Stock Exchange.

The company, the UK's largest installer and manager of smart meters, has been awarded ‘Green Economy Classification’, an accreditation for UK listed companies and funds that generate over 50% of total annual revenues from products and services that contribute to the global green economy.

Alan Foy, SMS’s chief executive said: "This accreditation is recognition of our contribution to a low carbon future. We have been at the heart of the UK energy market for over two decades and have sustainability at the core of our ethos and business model.

"Our mission remains unchanged: to deliver the future of smart energy in the UK."

Earlier this year SMS said it had now installed energy meters in one million homes.

In its half year-results, the firm said its revenue had increased in line with expectations by 14.1% to £85.9 million, ahead of expectations, as it fitted another 156,000 domestic smart meters.
