Smart glasses could be about to go mainstream thanks to new technology

Smart glasses that can display updates in front of your eyes could be about to go mainstream thanks to new technology from Bosch.

Bosch has invented new smart glasses technology which will mean you can keep an eye on all updates without having to reach for your phone or check your smart watch.

The new invention “Bosch Smart Glasses Light Drive” are 30% thinner than anything else on the market and weigh less than 10 grams.

They can also be fitted onto any regular pair of glasses, reports Mirror Online .

The system uses a light beam which scans a holographic element embedded in the lens of the glasses, which is then redirected on to the human retina.

This means the menu is always in focus even in direct sunlight and Bosch have confirmed it will launch the glasses in January at CES, the annual technology trade show which takes place in Las Vegas.

Dr Stefan Finkbeiner, chief executive of Bosch Sensortec, said: "The smartglasses system, BML500P (XY), is the smallest and lightest product on the market today”.

The glasses could help with navigation, providing maps straight to the eye.

Past versions of smart glasses include Google Glass, which launched in 2013 and stopped manufacture in 2015 after a range of issues were highlighted.

Snapchat Spectacles main purpose has been to make videos that can be posted to a user's Snapchat profile.
