Smaller crowds in quiet Brisbane New Year

Revellers mostly behaved themselves in a quieter than usual New Year's Eve at Brisbane nightspots. (AAP)

Smaller than usual crowds mostly behaved themselves in Brisbane's entertainment districts as Queenslanders said goodbye to 2020.

Queensland police made 71 arrests overnight but Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Stream said revellers were well-behaved.

"Generally the Queensland Police Service is very pleased with the behaviour of people throughout the entertainment precincts, Southbank and the city areas last night," he said.

Among matters dealt with by police, a watch house officer was bitten on the finger and three youths were injured in a stabbing incident.

Three males received either stab or slash wounds during a disturbance on Boundary Street at West End at about 1am.

"Unfortunately, those people that were involved in the disturbance, and in fact the people themselves that received those wounds, are being non-compliant and aren't assisting police with the investigation," he said.

The watch house officer was bitten on the finger during a struggle with a prisoner.

"Another great thing to report is no significant injuries to any police overnight," he said.

Police are expected to follow up with several licensed venues over failures to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.
