Small Stokes Croft snack company supplying Sainsbury's sees orders go 'through roof' and still sends parcels to NHS

A small company in Stokes Croft which sells nut and seed snacks has seen orders "go through the roof" in the past few weeks.

Boundless, which landed a deal to supply Sainsbury's after featuring on BBC's Inside the Supermarket last year, now has its products in 1,000 of the supermarket's stores as well as 900 Holland & Barrett branches and hundreds of other small retailers.

Since the government's lockdown, founder Cathy Moseley, who only set up the company in 2017, her business partner Talia Slade and their assistant Liv have been running the company from home.

Talia is based in Westbury-on-Trym, while Liv is in Henleaze and Cathy in Wiltshire.

The team say they are working "around the clock" liaising with retailers, distributors, suppliers and their production facility using Skype, Zoom and conference calls.

The trio are also packing hundreds of cases of their snacks for online customers as direct orders are also rising.

"Orders have gone through the roof as the supermarkets face unprecedented demand," they told Bristol Live.

The team at Boundless has also been making up parcels of their snacks to send out to NHS Trusts, hospitals, ambulance services and paramedics across the UK.

In Bristol, that has included the BRI, Children’s Hospital, Southmead and the Great Western Air Ambulance.

Talia said: "It is a tough time for everyone so we a pleased to be doing our bit and we have been overwhelmed by the gratitude of key workers and NHS staff when we have delivered cases to them as a thank you for their incredible dedication.”

But she admits adjusting to working from home has also had its challenges.

"We are a small team and it is vital that we keep in contact so that we don’t miss anything and we keep on top stock and orders," she said.

"I really miss the office banter," she added. "But also being able to solve problems quickly there and then and also the opportunity to bounce ideas off each other.

"[But] it’s critical that we keep on top of orders and ensure we are serving them to the best of our abilities. The retailers have a tough job keeping on top of demand and we are very conscious of the pressure their staff are under."

The news of the company's achievements follows on from a successful year for Boundless in 2019.

Last year, the snack maker's rosemary and cayenne activated nuts and seeds product was named the best snack of 2019 after beating off more than 5,000 competitors at the Caterer ’s Product Enterprise Awards.
