Japanese importers are interested in small Thai durians, while premium agricultural products secured orders totalling more than 334 million baht at Thaifex-Anuga Asia 2026.
Wittayakorn Maneenetr, director-general of the Department of Internal Trade (DIT), said the event may create new business opportunities in the Japanese market as importers expressed interest in small durians weighing up to 1.5 kilogrammes each.
"These durians are suitable for small households and meet the demand of Japanese consumers," he said.
Japanese importers had discussions with the DIT to find packaging providers and exporters capable of producing peeled durian in small packages for the Japanese market.
Meanwhile, a premium fruit and rice pavilion at the event received a positive response from both domestic and international buyers, resulting in 335 million baht in orders during the show.
Some 1,921 tonnes of fresh and processed fruit were sold valued at 222 million baht, as well as 809 tonnes of premium rice worth 109 million and 5,490 bottles of community liquor totalling 3.45 million.
The DIT expects a large volume of continuous orders after the show, said Mr Wittayakorn.
The event supports agricultural output, which is projected to increase in 2026, particularly fruit production, which could rise by more than 30%, he noted.
The event fostered market opportunities and supported greater price stability for Thai fruit, said Mr Wittayakorn.
Promotional activities in collaboration with NipponBoyz, a well-known Japanese content creator, raised awareness about Thai fruit and helped expand the consumer base for Thai fruit products in the Japanese market, according to the DIT.
