December 6 marks Small Business Saturday (SBS) - a national occasion to celebrate, and promote, the success of independent businesses. Shoe shops, bakeries, craft brewers, PR gurus: small businesses of all kinds are getting behind the initiative as consumers are encouraged to support independent enterprise in their communities. Last year’s inaugural UK SBS saw 43% of shoppers choosing to spend in their local high street. The campaign launched in the US in 2010, and its success has spread to the UK to highlight the UK’s 4.9m small and medium-sized companies.
This Saturday sees a country-wide celebration, with events including a motorcycle ride, a CSI-themed open day, street performances, as well as many craft markets and food stalls.
