Person nominated: Bertie Stephens, CEO and co-founder
Bertie Stephens, co-founder and CEO of Flubit.com, has in three years taken the business from a two people startup to a 70+ established online marketplace, whilst securing £9m in funding and a partnership with Barclays.
Since its inception Flubit has invested in the development of technology, creating an innovative new online shopping experience, diverting orders away from the likes of Amazon to smaller UK retailers. A major focus has been developing proprietary technology that makes it straightforward for online retailers to integrate.
Having already delivered millions of pounds worth of savings for hundreds of thousands of customers Flubit is seeing 200% year-on-year growth. Flubit has also integrated thousands of independent UK online retailers, creating an inventory of over 20 million products, making it the third biggest marketplace in the UK behind Amazon and eBay.
From day one Stephens has put a lot of effort into building a cohesive, trusted team and a strong company culture. Promoting from within has always been a key strategy, with over 35% of the company having been promoted. Each team member also receives a generous benefits package and has a stake in the business.
Stephens leads by example – always looking to challenge conventional thinking, relentlessly looking at new ways to improve things for customers and helping employees flourish. His interesting career history includes having set up and run a production company, working as a film extra and voiceover artist and doubling for Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films.
