OAKLAND, Calif. _ The Athletics have signed one of baseball's most prolific home run hitters through the 2021 season.
The team agreed to a contract extension with slugger Khris Davis, Oakland executives announced Thursday. Davis, 31, has a league-leading 10 home runs this year while batting .260.
He had 43 home runs and 110 runs batted in 2017 and had another 48 home runs last season to lead all major leaguers.
He has 143 home runs since the A's acquired him in 2016. He also has 385 RBIs since arriving in Oakland.
"Oakland has been a special place for me since I arrived," Davis said in a prepared statement. "I love playing here in front of our fans, and my teammates make this feel like a family. I never hid the fact that I wanted to stay in Oakland because that is how I feel and I'm glad that I can continue to call the city of Oakland my baseball home. This team has a bright future, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."
ESPN reported that the extension is worth $33.5 million, a figure the team has not confirmed.
"Khris is a special talent who has made a tremendous impact both on and off the field during his time here," said Billy Beane, executive vice president of baseball operations. "He's become one of the most beloved players to have worn an A's uniform, and his commitment to Oakland has never wavered. He made it clear from the beginning that he wants to play, and win, right here."
The Athletics also announced a two-for-one ticket deal for all games this weekend to celebrate the Davis deal.
The A's have scheduled media availability Friday with general manager David Forst and manager Bob Melvin. The team had Thursday off before starting a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Coliseum.
The Cal State Fullerton alumnus made his major league debut with Milwaukee in 2013. He hit .250 with 60 home runs and 162 RBIs in 321 games in three seasons for the Brewers.
