Slow Horses season 5: launch date and first images for the hit drama revealed

Fans of espionage thrillers, rejoice: Apple TV+ has finally confirmed that a fifth season of Slow Horses is on its way.

The show, which has been a huge hit for Apple, is based on the books by Mick Herron and tells the story of the Slow Horses: disgraced MI5 agents relegated to a decaying office called Slough House.

Though they’re meant to fade into obscurity, they inevitably find themselves in the thick of trouble: previous seasons have seen them tackle undercover Russian agents, dig up dark family secrets and solve the murders of several of their own agents.

This season, which will comprise six episodes, is based on Herron’s book London Rules, and will premiere on September 24 with two episodes. It will wrap up on October 22.

We don’t yet know too much about the plot, but it seems to revolve around the fact that Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung), the team’s resident tech nerd, has a glamorous new girlfriend, much to the suspicion of everybody else.

“When a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected,” the show’s logline states. “After all, Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules - cover your back - always apply.”

The first-look pictures don’t tell us much, though they do show Chung’s Roddy sporting a new haircut (dyed purple) and various people looking serious in rooms, including Gary Oldman’s Slow Horses chief Jackson Lamb and Scott Thomas’s Diana Taverner in his Slough House office.

The show will see the return of Gary Oldman as Lamb, as well as Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, Kristin Scott Thomas as Taverner, Rosalind Eleazar, Aimee-Ffion Edwards and Ruth Bradley, among others.

Jonathan Pryce will also be making a reappearance as River’s grandfather and former MI5 senior officer David Cartwright, while Nick Mohammed will be making a guest appearance – though in what role, we don’t yet know. Judging by the first-look images, which show him in a suit in front of a sign saying London, it could well be as a politician.
