Slow Food in the Outback

Chef and Slow Food Counsellor Amorelle Dempster says the project west of Alice Springs is ongoing

What would your reaction be if you went vegetable shopping only to discover that a head of broccoli was $14 and each potato a dollar?

Would you put your wallet away and go for a can of baked beans instead?

Chef and international counsellor with the Slow Food movement Amorelle Dempster, came across these prices, when shopping for fruit and vegetables in the Northern Territory recently.

The Slow Food movement in Australia is now part of a project to help indigenous communities in the Kings Canyon National Park, 600 kilometres south west of Alice Springs, to help them grow their own fresh food.

Amorelle says the project has the potential to be a catalyst for a nutritional and an economic change.
