Slovakia sack manager Pavel Hapal four weeks out from play-off final

Slovakia have reportedly sacked manager Pavel Hapal just four weeks out from their massive Euro play-off final against Northern Ireland.

Hapal - who was appointed national team boss in October 2018 - appears to have paid the price for back-to-back defeats in the Nations League.

Slovakia lost 1-0 to Scotland and then surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Israel on Wednesday.

It leaves the team in disarray ahead of next month's winner-takes-all play-off.

Slovakia reached the final with a penalty shootout win over the Republic of Ireland earlier this month.

Northern Ireland saw off Bosnia-Herzegovina on penalties in their semi-final.

The teams will now meet at Windsor Park on November 12.

It is understood Slovakia will confirm their new manager next Tuesday.

According to SK television RTVS, the favourite to replace Hapal is Stefan Tarkovic who worked as an assistant to Jan Kozak who helped Slovakia qualify for Euro 2016.
