Slovakia bring Vladimir Weiss back into squad for Euro 2020 playoff with Ireland

Slovakia have coaxed Vladimir Weiss back to their squad ahead of the Euro 2020 playoff with Ireland.

Capped 66 times, the 30-year-old free agent hasn’t played under manager Pavel Hapal because of a bust-up.

Hapal took charge in October 2018 and left Weiss on the bench for the closing games of the Nations League.

Furious Weiss made himself unavailable for selection but is now back in the mix following showdown talks with the Slovakia boss.

“It was a very pleasant meeting but myself and Vlado were a little nervous about it,” said Hapal.

“It all went well. He apologised to me and told me about his ideas. As far as I’m concerned, I’m open to many things.

“He has indicated that he would like to go back to the national team. But it’s very important that he plays regularly and is healthy.”

Weiss, who had spells with Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers and Rangers earlier in his career, quit Al-Gharafa of Qatar in December.

He played for another Qatari side - Lekhwiya - before that and had also been with Greek giants Olympiacos and Pescara of Italy.
