Sloppy Browns blow a sloppy game vs. the Seahawks

There is one word that perfectly sums up the Cleveland Browns game against the Seattle Seahawks. Cleveland blew an early 20-9 lead and lost at home, 32-28 thanks to that one word.

Sloppy.

The Browns were sloppy in executing plays far too often. Freddie Kitchens was sloppy as the coach with his decision too much. The officiating was dreadfully sloppy, seeming to make things up on the fly several times. The FOX broadcast featured a sloppy Chris Myers and a disengaged Daryl Johnston, neither of whom appeared to do much prep on the Browns beyond Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr.

Sloppy.

Baker Mayfield threw three interceptions, two of which hit his intended receiver in at least one hand before ricocheting to the Seattle defender. Mayfield had several miscommunication and timing issues with his receivers, notably Beckham. There were some signs of progress from Mayfield from Monday night’s disastrous performance, but not enough of them.

Sloppy.

Kitchens wiped a Nick Chubb TD off the board with a dumb challenge of a prior play where the Seahawks were guilty of a penalty, then followed it up with an easy-to-read Chubb run. His clock management was ponderous at times. The missed challenge cost them dearly when D.K. Metcalf had a questionable catch with just over 2:00 remaining.

Sloppy.

Not that it would have mattered, because the officiating in this game was amateur hack level. Mythical penalties on Jarvis Landry and Chris Hubbard. Missed facemasks, one on the aforementioned Chubb run. Consistent issues with play clock resets and spots plagued the rookie referee and his crew.

Sloppy.

In the end, the Browns fall to 2-4 and remain winless at home. They have only themselves and their sloppy execution in all phases to blame.
