Slogans raised in Atiq Ahmad's favour after Friday namaz in Patna

PATNA: Slogans in favour of don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad were raised near Patna Junction outside Jama Masjid after Juma namaz on Friday.

The locals who raised slogans alleged “Atiq was murdered in a planned way” by the Uttar Pradesh government and police.

They also raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

The incident occurred soon after Juma namaz on the road near Patna Junction.

The person leading this protest named himself as Rayees Ghaznavi and said Atiq, his brother Ashraf Ahmad and son Asad were martyred.

“Yes, I will call them martyrs because they were killed in the month of Ramzan. In fact, Muslims across the globe will call them martyrs. UP government and police got them murdered in a planned manner with the help of criminals,” said Rayees.

When asked by the media about the wrong deeds done by Atiq, he replied, “If he had done wrong, there was a court to see to it. Had he been punished or hanged, we would have said nothing. But with his murder, there has been the murder of the Constitution as well as democracy.”

A senior police officer said the investigation and interrogation was going on in this matter and action would be taken as per the law.

However, the mosque committee distanced itself from the incident.

While talking to the media, its president Maulana Faisal Imam said Atique’s issue was related to UP.

“It is related to UP and let the UP government see to it. Our CM is Nitish Kumar and law and order under him is the best."
