Sling TV streaming service goes live on Xbox

March 17--Sling TV, the potentially game-changing video streaming service from Dish Network, has added Xbox One to a growing list of devices supporting the platform.

The Xbox One gaming console app opens the Sling TV service to millions of potential users. The service, which provides more than a dozen live cable channels, including ESPN and AMC, also works with Amazon Fire, Roku and other devices.

"Sling TV and Xbox are a natural pairing; 2 out of 3 millennials think of themselves as gamers, while nearly 9 out of 10 watch live sports on TV," Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV, said in a statement Tuesday.

Launched last month, Sling TV offers live streaming of more than a dozen cable channels for $20 per month. The basic package includes ESPN, AMC, TNT and CNN, among others. A, HISTORY, H2 and Lifetime will be added to the core lineup by the end of the month.

Sling TV has reportedly signed up more than 100,000 subscribers in its first month, as over-the-top streaming services gain traction across the industry. CBS, which launched its $5.99 per month streaming service in October, has more subscribers than Sling TV, executives said last week. Premium cable channel HBO is set to launch its own $14.99-per-month streaming service, HBO Now, beginning in April.
