'Slim hopes' - Former Red has his say on Nottingham Forest's promotion chances

Nottingham Forest will have to settle for fighting for promotion via the play-offs, according to former Red David Prutton.

The Sky Sports pundit believes the late goal Forest conceded at Sheffield Wednesday last weekend has put paid to any hopes they had of finishing in the top two.

In their first game back of the Championship’s restart, Sabri Lamouchi’s side had to make do with a point at Hillsborough.

Joe Lolley looked to have won it for the visitors with a brilliant second half goal, only for Connor Wickham to make it 1-1 right at the death.

It leaves the Reds in fifth place with eight matches remaining - 10 points adrift of joint-leaders West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United.

Prutton, does however, believe his old club will get back to winning ways this Sunday, at home to Huddersfield Town, predicting a 2-0 victory.

“That late goal they conceded at Sheffield Wednesday probably put an end to Nottingham Forest's slim hopes of automatic promotion this season,” he said, in his column for Sky Sports.

“They now need to focus on making sure they hold on to a play-off spot.

“Huddersfield were really poor against Wigan last week and it is a result which has left them right back in the relegation mix.

“Forest don't always do well at home against teams who sit in, but they should have enough to win this one.”
