Slim 400 death: Rapper shot dead aged 33, report says

Slim 400 has died of a gunshot wound on Wednesday (8 December) in California, according to reports. He was 33.

TMZ, citing law enforcement agencies, reported that the rapper was gunned down in Inglewood, Los Angeles. It is currently unclear how many suspects were involved in the fatal shooting, or why Slim 400 was attacked.

Earlier on Thursday 9 December, Slim 400’s manager Mud Dollaz uploaded a photo of the rapper, urging him to “pull through”.

The caption read: “Pull thru not tryna hear the Bs I’m hear’n pray for Slim 400”

Before an official confirmation, fan-made videos of the alleged crime scene –7th Avenue and Manchester in Inglewood –were uploaded on YouTube, and #RIPSlim400 began trending on Twitter shortly after.

Real name Vincent Cohran, the rapper was born on 22 June 1988 to military parents in Frankfurt, Germany. The singer was reportedly extremely private and never disclosed the identity of his parents.

A rising star on the West Coast hip hop scene, Slim 400 was discovered and signed by Pu$haz Ink, the music label rapper YG attempted to launch with DJ Mustard and Ty Dolla Sign.

He was best known for the song “Bruisin’ which he performed with YG and Sad Boy Loko,

Two years ago, Slim 400 narrowly escaped death when he was was shot at multiple times in Los Angeles. The rapper claimed he was ambushed while visiting his family in Compton.

Following the life-threatening incident, the Compton-raised rapper revealed that one of his own family members had braved gunfire to drag Slim 400 to safety.

During a radio interview, Slim 400 said: “I hit the ground thinking it was over. My family came out, kept me alive, talking to me, dragging me in the house while they still shooting … My family, love her to death for just saving me. I just feel like I’m blessed just to be here ’cause I could have just died then and there.”

After news of Slim 400’s death broke, tributes to the rapper began pouring in on Twitter.

A tweet on the social media account for hip-hop blog Passion Weiss read: “RIP Slim 400. A Compton gangsta rap prototype, an ambassador for a tradition, lineage, and history -- who made a whole lot of hard-as-hell rap songs full of sober gravity and blunt force.”

Musician Michael Christmas wrote: “Damn RIP Slim 400 smh I remember him being mad hella nice to me when I opened for YG”.

Slim 400 is reportedly survived by 12-year-old daughter Parris.
