Sligo Rovers rocked by Romeo Parkes departure ahead of new season

Sligo Rovers have been rocked by Romeo Parkes’ exit ahead of the new season.

The Jamaica international is returning to America - where he previously played - for personal reasons despite having a year to run on his Showgrounds deal.

Parkes made an instant impact with the Bit O’Red and was the fourth highest scorer in the Premier Division last season with 11 goals.

But Rovers boss Liam Buckley said: “This decision relates to an important aspect of Romeo’s life and his long-term future.

“While he is under contract, we have to look at it from a human level. We had hoped it wouldn’t come to this. Unfortunately it has.”

And Parkes said: “I’d like to thank the manager and the club for facilitating this. I’m sorry I won’t be back next season but I have obligations to fulfil where I am.”
