Sligo Rovers awaiting international clearance for new signing Danny Kane ahead of Waterford clash

Sligo Rovers are awaiting international clearance for new signing Danny Kane who sealed his move yesterday.

Mirror Sport revealed in February that Kane, 22, was poised to join the Bit O’Red but the signing was delayed following an ankle injury.

“I’m delighted to officially be a Sligo Rovers player,” said the ex-Ireland Under-21 international who had been working on his fitness at the club throughout that time.

Kane played in Monday’s friendly win over Accrington Stanley and said: “It’s been a long recovery and frustrating watching on.

“Mentally it was hard but being around the lads and the staff has been vital. I want to show what I can do and get back flying.

“My preferred position is centre-half but I can play anywhere across the back four.”

Rovers boss Liam Buckley said: “We’ve a very good player on our hands at his best - he’s a baller.

“He can really play and also defend very well. His grandmother is from the area so to have family around is great for him.”

Lewis Banks is suspended while Regan Donelon (hamstring) and Romeo Parkes (ankle) are doubts. Niall Morahan is on international duty with Ireland’s U19s.

Michael O’Connor could feature for Waterford following his loan move from Linfield this week, in which star midfielder Bastien Hery moved the other way.

Blues boss Alan Reynolds said: “We’ve made no secret that we’ve been trying to get a striker and Michael fits. He’s strong and athletic and can score goals.”
