Slight increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Bristol and surrounding areas

The latest daily data released by the Government reveals that one more person has tested positive for coronavirus in Bristol during the past 24 hours.

The city's total number of cases now stands at 687 as of 9am on Sunday morning (May 17), which is only a rise of one case in the past 24 hours.

North Somerset recorded a jump of seven new cases, taking the total from 338 to 345.

This is a larger increase for North Somerset in comparison to yesterday (May 16) when case numbers rose by three.

There have been no new cases recorded in Bath and North East Somerset in the past 24 hours, with cases staying at 227.

South Gloucestershire has recorded two new cases, rising from 396 to 398.

Across the UK there have been a further 3,142 cases recorded in today's statistics, bringing the total number to 243,303.

This figure only includes lab-confirmed tests and does not account for people with coronavirus symptoms who have not been officially diagnosed.

It covers the 24-hour period up until 9am this morning.

There were 170 more coronavirus-related deaths within that period, so the UK death toll now stands at 34,636.
