'Sleep tight handsome' Tributes paid to Scots teen who died after being found seriously injured in Motherwell car park

Tributes have been paid to a popular Scots teenager who died after being found seriously injured in a council car park.

Mark Ross passed away after being found near Motherwell Civic Centre at around 9.30am on Sunday.

Emergency services raced to the scene and discovered the injured teen but the 17-year-old could not be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later.

His death is currently being treated as “unexplained” and police enquiries are ongoing.

Heartbroken pals have paid tribute to Mark, who was a pupil at Our Lady’s High School in the Scots town.

Posting on Facebook, one devastated friend said: "I just want you to wake up and tell us this is all a bad dream.

"I'm so thankful to have had you in my life when I did and the memories you gave me I will cherish forever and ever.

"You were so special words can't even describe it and so loved by everyone around you.

"You will always hold a special place in my heart and you will most certainly never be forgotten.

"I love you always - sleep tight handsome."

Another posted: "A good man taken far too early. I loved you like a brother Marky.

"You will always have a massive place in my heart."

A third pal said: “You were some man Mark, fly high mate.”

Conservative councillor Megan Gallacher, for Motherwell West, added: “Terrible news today and I can’t imagine how the family of the 17 year old must be feeling.

“Thoughts are with them and anyone who knew the person who died.”

Mark is survived by his parents, a brother and a sister.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We can confirm a 17-year-old man was found seriously injured in a car park near Motherwell Civic Centre shortly after 9.30am on Sunday, 12 July.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His next of kin are aware.

"His death is being treated as unexplained. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
