Sleep on the cheap

Spain is attempting to resurrect the siesta by rebranding it as "Iberian yoga", the Independent reports.

The campaign, which has adopted the slogan "After eating, I sleep", hails the mid-afternoon nap as "Spain's secret weapon" and a vital element of a balanced lifestyle.

As part of the campaign, hoteliers in Seville are trying to lure visitors back from the beach by offering rooms at 30% of the normal rate between 3pm and 7pm, enabling people to slumber through the hottest hours.

However, the region's Hostelry Union has expressed concerns about the plan, saying it could mean extra work for hotel staff. "It could be a way of dignifying the old custom of hiring hotels by the hour," a spokesman added.
