Sledges dumped at Queen's Park to be recycled in new project

A community group has sprung into action after dozens of sledges were left behind in Queen's Park.

Govanhill Baths Community Trust has begun a sledge recycling initiative ahead of the next snowfall.

The Rags 2 Riches project will be operating throughout the rest of January.

Sledgers can take any broken plastic sledges to The Deep End, 21 Nithsdale Street where there will be a full plastic recycling operation.

The plastic will be ground down and repurposed, making sure that having fun in the snow causes no harm to the planet and takes a weight off refuse workers.

All collections will be socially-distanced and will be done with reduced volunteers wearing protective gloves and face coverings. All items will be fully disinfected prior to processing.

As reported by Glasgow Live, bins at Queen's Park were left overflowing after hundreds of revellers flocked to the park to enjoy the cold weather earlier this month.

Despite safety concerns, the public enjoyed ice skating on the pond before the ice was broken up by the council.

With temperatures hitting -1° over the weekend, it could soon be time to look out the sledges once again!
