Slay the Spire 2 Price: How Much Does It Cost and Is It Worth It?

The eagerly anticipated roguelike deckbuilder Slay the Spire 2 has arrived in Early Access, and fans of the original are eager to jump back into the Spire. But before you hit buy, you probably want to know what you’re paying and whether it’s worth buying into the Early Access at this stage. Here’s everything you need to know about Slay the Spire 2’s price.

How Much Does Slay the Spire 2 Cost?

Slay the Spire 2 is currently available in Early Access on Steam for $24.99 USD. But the devs did confirm that the game will utilise regional pricing, so players outside the US will see a different price adjusted for their local market. If you’re not in the US, check the Steam store page directly for your regional cost.

Slay the Spire 2 vs. Slay the Spire 1: Price Comparison

Slay the Spire 1 launched in Early Access back in Nov. 2017 at $15.99. Once the game received its full 1.0 release in Jan. 2019, that price increased to the full $24.99. That’s a $9 increase after the Early Access development ended.

Slay the Spire 2 is launch Early Access at $24.99, the same price StS1 only reached after leaving Early Access. That’s a steeper entry point for Early Access buyers, but reflects the general trends in the gaming industry where AAA games have similarly increased in price in the nearly ten year span. Whether the full price climbs further remains to be seen.

If MegaCrit follows a similar pattern, a price increase at 1.0 launch is plausible, meaning buying during Early Access could still represent the best value. Especially when you consider the amount of impact Early Access players get to have with the game’s development.

Is Slay the Spire 2 Worth It?

For fans of the original, $24.99 is an easy call. MegaCrit earned enormous goodwill with StS1, and early impressions of StS2 suggest it builds meaningfully on the formula rather than simply repackaging it. Read through any Reddit thread about the game, and you’ll see hundreds of diehard fans discussing the incredible number of hours they’ve put into the original, with numbers regularly exceeding 1000 hours.

If you’re on the fence, the main reasons to wait are if you prefer a more stable experience of the card meta, or if you’re a console player, MegaCrit has confirmed there’s no console release timeline yet, with the team focused on getting through Early Access on PC first.

For everyone else, the Early Access price is likely the lowest it’ll ever be. If you enjoyed StS1 at all, Slay the Spire 2 is worth picking up now.
