Slavia Prague lodge Rangers assault charge after alleged 'premeditated attack' at Ibrox

Slavia Prague have filed a criminal complaint after an alleged assault in the aftermath of their Europa League win over Rangers.

There were ugly scenes at Ibrox when Slavia defender Ondrej Kudela sidled up to Glen Kamara, covered his mouth and said something into the midfielder’s ear.

That prompted a furious reaction from Kamara and teammate Bongani Zungu, and it has been alleged that Kudela racially abused the Rangers player.

The confrontation is thought to have continued in the tunnel as the players made their way to the dressing rooms and it was claimed that Kudela had been attacked.

The Czech outfit were escorted away from the stadium last night, and have now lodged an official complaint regarding the post-match incident.

A statement read: "SK Slavia Praha has filed a criminal complaint with Police Scotland through the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Great Britain for the physical assault of player Ondrej Kudela.

"The attack on player Ondrej Kudela was premeditated and planned, including deliberately covering the cameras at the scene of the incident. The brutal and crude attack was conducted with full intensity in order to injure and cause physical damage.

"The submission contains the names of witnesses, who, in addition to representatives of SK Slavia Praha, were also representatives of the UEFA delegation as well as Rangers FC coach Steven Gerrard."

UEFA is now investigating both incidents, while Gerrard said earlier today that he stood side by side with Kamara and backed his player one hundred per cent.

Connor Goldson said similar, and insisted that he knew for certain what had been said to Kamara based on his teammate’s reaction.

Gerrard was due to meet with Kamara face to face this morning before deciding whether he was in the right frame of mind to play in Sunday’s Scottish Premiership meeting with Celtic.
