Slaven Bilic set for staggering £12.5million payout following FIFA order

Slaven Bilic is due a staggering pay-out from his old club Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia which could be worth up to £12.5million.

Bilic took charge of the Pro League side in September 2018 on a lucrative deal until June 2021.

But Bilic, 51,now in charge of West Brom, was sacked in February 2019 just five months later after only 17 games.

He enlisted Fifa to help get his compensation from Al-Ittihad, who have now been ordered to pay-up around £12.5m within 30 days.

Bilic's assistants Dean Racunica and Danilo Butorovic are also due to receive compensation under the ruling.

But the Saudi Arabia side look set to appeal the decision and take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Bilic was appointed Al-Ittihad boss with the club languishing in the relegation zone following the sacking of Ramon Diaz.

He won manager of the month in January but was sacked just weeks later after a 2-0 home defeat to arch-rivals Al-Hilal.

The Croatian was appointed Hawthorns head coach four months later after on a two-year-deal.

At the time the ex-West Ham and Croatia boss assessed: “Saudi was a different challenge.

“I wanted to go there for three years.

“I wanted to stay there, I had big plans.

“Football is very important there, gates can be 50,000-60,000. I was at a big club.

“The problem is they keep changing the board and the board change the managers.

“The club improved, that’s why I wasn’t happy.

“I was double sad when I got sacked, because we had already done the hard job.

“It was in a really bad position when we took over in September.

“In January when it got better and better and we came out of the turbulence, I was voted manager of the month. A month later I was sacked.”
