Slaven Bilic's West Brom future remains in doubt with Baggies still winless

Slaven Bilic will tread a tightrope at West Brom over the international break with his future still in doubt.

Baggies' coach Bilic is under increasing pressure at The Hawthorns with the promoted outfit 18th and still yet to win this term.

The Chinese-owned club are considering other potential bosses to replace Bilic with Charlton's Lee Bowyer among the names in the frame.

Albion are still deciding whether to pull the trigger on Croatian Bilic,52, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Relations between the club's board and Bilic have become strained in recent weeks.

Bilic is unhappy with the financial backing he has received for new players since promotion to the Premier League.

He was also left fuming and hit out publicly at the club's decision to sell defender Ahmed Hegazi against his wishes to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.

Albion turned in an improved display against Spurs in their last match which could yet buy Bilic more time ahead of a trip to Manchester United on November 21 before a crunch home game with Sheffield United.

Despite missing Branislav Ivanovic and Matheus Pereira, who tested positive for Covid-19, Albion were unlucky to lose 1-0 to an 88th-minute Harry Kane winner.

Bilic has previously insisted he won't quit as he is still under contract and his family are settled in the Midlands.

West Brom spent around just £20million this close season as their budget was severely damaged by the pandemic.

They still managed to bring in nine new players but four were to re-sign men already on loan last season as Pereira, Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson joined permanently and Filip Krovinovic returned on loan.

Bilic, appointed in June 2019 on a two-year deal, wasn't able to significantly improve his side with new blood and even the signing of striker Karlan Grant was protracted as Albion spread the cost over a six-year deal.

Charlton boss Bowyer,43, is believed to be among the top choices to replace Bilic.

The ex-Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle midfielder has impressed in management in difficult circumstances at Addicks after serving controversial former owner Roland Duchatelet.

Charlton are now third in League One under new owner Thomas Sandgaard after sixth successive wins.
