Slaven Bilic makes admission after referee controversies vs Nottingham Forest

Slaven Bilic admitted West Bromwich Albion’s second goal against Nottingham Forest should not have stood.

Albion re-took the lead in the second half against Forest when Tobias Figueiredo scored an own goal to make it 2-1, that after a Kyle Bartley own goal had cancelled out Callum Robinson’s strike.

Forest were adamant that Sammy Ameobi was fouled by Jake Livermore in the build-up to Figueiredo’s own goal, with Livermore going on to get the assist for it.

And Bilic said referee Keith Stroud got the decision wrong.

“Second one, our second goal. Foul, yes. On Ameobi,” Bilic told BirminghamLive.

Sabri Lamouchi was also unhappy with Stroud after he failed to even book Livermore for a studs-up challenge of Yuri Ribeiro in the first half.

“I didn’t see that,” said Bilic. “I really didn’t see it guys, so I really can’t say. Sabri thought it was a red? Maybe. I didn’t see it.”

It was one of a number of decisions that left both Lamouchi and the travelling Forest support unhappy at the final whistle of the 2-2 draw.

“I don’t blame the referee but I can explain them,” Bilic said.

“First one that was controversial for me was Matty Cash’s challenge on Filip. That’s a yellow card, and he was already booked.

“He got the ball, and you can talk about great tackle.

“But also Nathan [Ferguson] against Charlton was a great tackle, but nowadays when we go to these seminars is that these are reckless tackles, 100 miles per hour. For me he should be off.”

Albion were denied a winner with the last kick of the game when Callum Robinson’s effort appeared to be scrambled over the line, but the linesman’s flag was raised.

“The goal at the end. For me it’s a goal,” said Bilic.

“They have a point, the only thing they may say is that Kyle Bartley was influencing the game. Kyle was lying in the goal, so I don’t see that as interfering in the game.”
