Slattery's forced to deny rumours that beloved chocolate shop is closing for good

One of Greater Manchester's most beloved businesses has had to deny rumours that it's closing for good after more than 50 years.

Slattery's cafe and chocolate shop in Whitefield posted on its Facebook page to confirm that it is indeed still open for business, and is working to reopen its indoor dining space later this month.

Staff at the chocolatier said they've been receiving phone calls from members of the public asking whether they would be closing down.

They say they don't know where or how the rumours started, but that they are 'proud to have survived a very difficult time'.

The family-run business on Bury New Road has been in the Slattery family for three generations, and is famed for its near-impossible ' chocolate challenge '.

Although its dining room hasn't been able to reopen yet due to covid restrictions, the chocolate shop is open five days a week.

Slattery's posted on Facebook: "We've received a few phone calls to check if the rumour is true and we are closing down?!

"We are not closing down!"

They added: "We our proud to have survived a very difficult time and can't wait for more 'normal' business to resume in a couple of weeks' time."

Fans of the chocolate cafe welcomed the news, with one writing: "Crossing everything for the dining room. I’m glad I never heard those rumours. Glad to hear you are open FOR GOOD"

Another user commented: "Glad to hear, you are an institution."

Slattery's will now be working to reopen for indoor dining from May 19, shortly after the current Government roadmap allows indoor hospitality to reopen.
