Slated by Teri Terry - review

Set in the late 21st century, Slated is a futuristic sci-fi themed book; but if you are bored by that genre, you will still not be bored of this. With the right blend of sci-fi, adventure, romance and ethics, Slated's plot is unique to any other.

The government has been replaced by the Central Coalition, a group of people who are very controlling over the UK. As a result of the riots, people under sixteen have their memories wiped and are put with new families - technology found as a result of the discovery of the cure for autism.

However, our main character, Kyla, finds she is having frequent flashbacks of her past life. She doesn't know much, only that she is different to the other Slateds; unable to fit in with them or the normal schoolchildren, she befriends one other Slated boy, Ben. Together, they discover the reasons behind the Slating, but get further and further into trouble as they uncover more deep and dark secrets. Kyla finds she can trust no-one - her doctors, her teachers, even her adopted family. And when something terrible happens to Ben, she becomes determined to find out what happened to him.

An action-packed, nail-biting story, Slated was very difficult to put down and extremely well-written. I would recommend this book if you are into sci-fi, mystery, or just about anything. The characters, setting and plot are extremely unique and incredibly enjoyable.
