Slane Castle owner reveals rock fans from Asia and South America are coming to Metallica gig

Fans will flock from around the world to catch rock legends Metallica this summer, Lord Henry Mount Charles has revealed.

The Rock Lord said he is getting inquiries from as far away as China from heavy metal fans desperate to see their heroes at his iconic castle on the banks of the Boyne.

He told the Irish Sunday Mirror there is “astonishing” interest in what will be a sell-out show on June 8.

He said: “There are people coming from Argentina, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Peru - to give you just a sample.

“The geographical spread is massive, I’ve never seen anything like it before.

How to get to Slane Castle for the Metallica concert this June?

“Over the past few years, the numbers have been increasingly but this year has been a serious jump.”

And with 80,000 revellers expected to take over the Co Meath venue on June 8, Lord Henry also said that it would be a huge boost for Irish tourism.

“If you say that around 10% of fans are from overseas, that means they will need flights, hotels, food, drink and whatever else.

“The contribution of the music industry to the economy is always growing and I want to highlight that here.”

Metallica last played in Ireland in 2009 where they rocked Marlay Park to thousands of fans.

James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Rob Trujilo’s return to Ireland will be a focal point of the music calendar this summer with Slane Castle never failing to put on a good show.

Lord Henry Mountcharles says a suspected kidney stone saved his life

And Lord Henry said it was an easy decision for him this time around to choose the band that would perform.

He said: “I’ve had so many requests, both through letter and email, for Metallica to play at Slane Castle.

“It can be difficult to choose who will play but I knew that Slane was on Metallica’s bucket list so I know they’ll put on a great show.

“Choosing a follow-up to Guns ’n’ Roses was no easy task!”

Concerts have been held in Slane Castle since 1981, with Thin Lizzy being the first ever headliner.

Since then, some of the all-time music greats have performed including U2, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Queen, Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie.

More recently, American rockers Bon Jovi, Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters have all headlined in the last decade,

Lord Henry said tickets for Metallica are “selling very well” and that they are being bought every day. Tickets are available from ticketmaster.ie and Ticketmaster outlets.
