Slane Castle owner defends Harry Styles concert amid online backlash

Slane Castle Owner Lord Henry Mountcharles has celebrated the announcement of Harry Styles' planned gig at the venue next year, saying that the popstar is "up there with Queen".

Harry's 'Love On Tour" has been extended into summer 2023 with Styles set to play Slane Castle on June 10. He has also announced 18 other gigs across the UK, France, Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Austria and Italy.

The star played Dublin's Aviva Stadium this past June. Twitter users were split on the matter, with some not impressed at the star bringing his world tour to the venue which has played host to the likes of The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Queen and Bruce Springsteen.

One person wrote: "Harry Style playing Slane Castle! Is personally an insult to the big acts that have played there such as The Stones, Oasis, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen etc! He's fine for Aviva etc but Slane Castle!"

Another complained: "Well, I guess I won't be making the pilgrimage next year so. Rumour mill had me believe that ACDC or Pearl Jam were going to play which would be a more fitting act for the iconic venue."

Another said: "Slane castle organisers you should be ashamed. The Amount of historical acts you've had through the years and now this so called "artist" so so so bad."

Speaking on the Brendan O'Connor Show during the weekend, Lord Henry Mountcharles praised the young artist and said that he admires his craft.

He explained: "I think he is the only man to have graced the front page of Vogue, and at the same time he is a very serious artist. What I do admire is he takes his craft very seriously.

"Everything fell together, and the level of excitement has actually even taken me aback. Calls from all over the place, people coming out from the woodwork, which as far as I'm concerned is always a very good sign.

"Harry is linked to so many strands that Slane has been about and the many artists who have played the venue. He is right up there with Queen, David Bowie, U2 and the Stones. This will be a show not to be missed. A great day out and a legend for our times."

Tickets for Harry Styles at Slane Castle are priced from €97.10 inclusive of booking fee and will go on sale on Friday, September 2 at 10am via Ticketmaster. He will be supported by Wet Leg and Inhaler.
