Slam Dunk Festival 2021 announces its first big name acts

Slam Dunk Festival has announced the first acts which will be performing at next year’s big rock event.

Like so many events in Leeds, coronavirus has impacted plans for this year’s festival at Temple Newsam. The Slam Dunk team have announced their first plans for the 2021 party.

Slam Dunk has confirmed Fat Mike’s 'Punk in Drublic Stage' will be returning to Leeds and they’ve revealed the acts who’ll perform. NOFX, Pennywise, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, Reel Big Fish, The Vandals and Face To Face will all be playing.

Slam Dunk 2021 in Leeds will be happening on Saturday, May 29. You can buy tickets for the festival here.

Elsewhere, Leeds Festival boss Melvin Benn has discussed his plans for getting crowds back to big music festivals. In short, he’d like to see events linked to compulsory coronavirus testing.

The idea, which would need support from the government and scientists, would mean anyone with a ticket was tested for Covid-19 ahead of the festival and could not attend if they test positive for the virus.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Benn said big music events couldn’t be run successfully with social distancing and that 'full houses' were needed.

“It's impossible for us to operate our businesses," he said.

The Festival Republic director believes coronavirus testing would act as a personal incentive for anyone wishing to go to a festival.

Under his plan, everybody attending an event will have been tested for Covid-19 'within either seven or 14 days' before the event - or ‘whichever length of time the government determines is safe'.
